Exploring New Ways Of Caring For A Generation In Transition
The following
presentations are designed specifically for each organization, considering their
needs and schedules. They can be offered as ninety-minute presentations,
two-hour workshops, weekend retreats or series over time. All
presentations speak to the issues of transition and the creative voice in
everyone, and how vibrant, interested, excited members of the baby boom
generation and beyond, who live in a certain community, can positively affect
their own lives, and those around them through community service and
volunteerism.
Community Non-Profits
The presentation focuses on encouraging audience
members to become familiar with and involved in the organization and its
mission, first to benefit themselves, then the organization, and then the larger
community around them.
National or Statewide Non-Profit Organizations
The presentation looks at the efforts and
collaborations available through national organizations and ways in which
belonging to such groups can expand the opportunities to positively affect a
greater number of communities through volunteerism, experience sharing and
action.
Medical Charitable Associations
The presentation examines ways in which audience
members can bring time, energy and expertise to these organizations. There is
also a focus on the need for expanding the volunteer and fundraising base to
better realize important, innovative programming.
Hospitals and Medical Associations
The presentation focuses on ways in which the
audience members can bring their considerable energy to hospitals and
associations, first, by taking advantage of the services offered, and then by
volunteering and sharing their considerable expertise in community outreach
programs.
Educational Associations and College, University
and Secondary School Alumni Cultivation and Development
The presentation highlights ways in which the
audience members can get better acquainted with the college, university or
secondary school they attended, and/or the educational association they
belong to. It also focuses on ways to meet the alumni needs of a given
institution, and the importance of development and funding the future needs of
that institution.
Corporations
The presentation speaks to
the challenges awaiting many as they work towards retirement in a
corporate setting.
The issues of working full-time versus part-time or just not at all are
addressed. There is also an effort made to explore ways of accomplishing
unrealized lifelong dreams along with thinking of creative ways to bring one’s
work experience to the community in which one lives.
Men’s Service Organizations
The presentation focuses on the needs of men in
their quest to have a better understanding of the creative voice within them.
There is also discussion of issues surrounding the value accomplished in the
workplace, and how to compensate for this loss when embarking on the road to
working less or retirement.
Performance Venues
The presentation is given at community performing
arts centers, often in collaboration with a corporate partner. There is
focus on ways to bring these centers, members of the audience, and corporations
together in educational efforts to address community volunteerism and
development.
Professional Associations
The presentation addresses ways the audience
members can bring their expertise, e.g., in law, medicine, accounting,
architecture, plumbing, etc. to the community in which they live, either on a
volunteer or a reduced fee basis, benefiting their neighbors.
Vacation Programming
The presentation can be conducted on the sea
during cruise vacations or on land during tour vacations. There is a focus
on encouraging audience members to think creatively, during the time away from
their work life. The discussion then moves to how bringing the happiness and
freedom felt, while on vacation, back to others close to home, can build better
communities.
“Tom’s message is powerful, personal and
persuasive! It is worth the personal investment of your time to experience new
insights into your own definition of creativity and purpose.”

Director, Coming of Age Coalition
“Tom Willits has succeeded at embracing this transitional phase from
what I call an investment approach. Not afraid of nostalgia or loss, he
delves into conveying the experience of aging with a message to all ages to
shape it as their life’s work drawing from the reservoirs of personal power,
experience, memory, realism, and transport that come with such an investment.”

Director, Highland Valley Elder Services, Inc.
